Players Come First was founded by Dalian Atkinson, a retired professional footballer who played at the highest level for clubs such as Real Sociedad, Fenerbahce, Aston Villa and Manchester City, and Jeff Britnell, long term friend and business partner.

The concept of the consultancy had been on Dalian's mind for some years given his own less than satisfactory experiences with transfer deals. However, a recent visit to an old club confirmed little had changed, with numerous stories confirming that current players are still getting a raw deal and need more protection.
